Frequently asked questions
Is my subtitle file sent to a translation service?
No. In Chrome and Edge on computers, the browser’s own on-device translator is used. Elsewhere, open translation models (Opus-MT) are downloaded once and run in your browser.
Which languages work?
With the browser’s translator: most major languages. With the open models: English to and from Spanish, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Hindi, Arabic, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian, and others through English.
Is machine translation perfect?
No. It is good for most lines, but check names, slang and jokes before publishing.
Is it free?
Yes. Free, with no signup and no watermark.
