How to compress a video to a specific size (10 MB, 25 MB…)
Updated · about 3 minutes
Upload limits are in megabytes, so the easiest way to compress is to say how big the file may be. The compressor picks the bitrate and resolution for you, checks the result, and tries again if it came out too big.

- 1
Open the video compressor
Go to the Video Compressor and choose your video. It is read on your device; nothing is uploaded.
- 2
Choose "Target file size"
Under "Compress by", pick Target file size. Tap 10 MB for Discord free uploads, 25 MB for most email attachments, or type your own number (decimals like 0.5 work).
- 3
Check the estimate
Under the button you see the estimated size and the output resolution. For a tiny target, the compressor lowers the resolution so the picture stays clean instead of blocky.
- 4
Optional: drop the sound or the frame rate
Untick "Keep audio" if you don’t need sound, or choose 30 or 24 fps. Both leave more room for the picture.
- 5
Compress and download
Press Compress video. If the encoder overshoots, the tool automatically re-encodes with a lower bitrate, then shows the final size and how much you saved.
Tips
- Shorter is the best compression: trim the parts you don’t need first.
- A 1-minute clip fits 10 MB at about 720p; a 5-minute clip needs about 480p or a bigger target.
- The result is an MP4 (H.264), which plays on phones, Windows, Mac and every browser.
Questions
Why is my video not exactly 10.0 MB?
The tool aims a little under the target (it leaves room for the file’s own data), so a 10 MB target usually ends at 9–10 MB.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser with WebCodecs. The file never leaves your device.
What if the target is too small?
You get a warning that the video will look blocky. Trim the video or choose a bigger size.
